Out of State Reviews
Please read the following information regarding North Carolina DWI requirements:
When a person receives a DWI in North Carolina (no matter how far back it was), the
client is required to have a Comprehensive Substance Abuse assessment and treatment or
education. The assessment must be done by a state approved DWI treatment facility.
Please send a copy of the assessment and recommended treatment or education so that we
can make sure it meets North Carolina requirements. The results of the assessment will
determine the amount of treatment or education that the client needs. Treatment will be
what your state requires If the client has more than one DWI
the treatment will be adjusted by the assessing agency as to the needs of the client. The
substance abuse treatment needs to be completed to satisfy North Carolina’s requirements
to release the hold on license.
When client completes this treatment, North Carolina DMV requires that the facility or
you to mail or fax to us a letter or certificate stating the following:
● Start date
● Completion date
● Number of hours of treatment/education completed
